Dry Skin Conditions...

Eczema  is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin. It appears as redness, skin edema, itching and dryness. It can occur on skin of any age, but babies' delicate skin, which is subjected to frequent diaper changes and bathing, is especially susceptible to the common symptoms of eczema. If children are permitted to scratch, the skin can split, leaving it prone to infection. To avoid eczema, it is important to maintain skin's moisture and reduce environmental irritants and food allergens.

Burts Bees products are specifically designed with rich moisturizers (essential oils), emollients (glycerin and honey) and natural anti-inflammatory ingredients (aloe vera, kaolin), to reduce moisture loss and prevent dryness.

Tips for Eczema sufferers (including Infant Eczema sufferers).....
  • Change your washing detergent to a mild, non bio formula - fragrance free, like Ecover or Surcare Sensitive or even try eco wash balls. Try to avoid fabric softeners unless they are designed specifically for sensitive skin (must be fragrance free)
  • Stop using soaps and shower gels and instead opt for emollient skin washes or even try my tip of wrapping a handful of organic porridge oats in a square of muslin, tie off with string then immerse in water squeeze the soothing oat milk out and rub the muslin ball over your body to wash. You can also pop this straight in a bath of warm water and relax in the oat milk infused water. The Oat wash is incredibly soothing and can be used on babies from birth
  • Try to keep baths or shower time short - water itself can be very drying
  • Take a supplement of omega 3.6.9 - essential fatty acids help the body defend from within. Cold pressed Linseed oil, or Flaxseed oil is particularly good as is a good quality hemp oil. A teaspoon of Flaxseed oil can be added to babies food when weaning (recommended from 6 months)
  • A few drops of Lavender, Blue Chamomile or Chamomile essential oil in the bath can help sooth and take the pain away from sore & broken skin
  • Try using Burts Bees Hand Salve all over the body (NOT recommended for small infants and babies under 12 months) Infants and babies can be smothered in Baby Bee Skin Creme it's super emollient properties seal in moisture and help heal those angry red patches or try NEW Miracle salve with nourishing pumpkin seed oil
  • Wheat, Egg & Dairy intolerance are known to contribute to skin conditions like Eczema in very young babies and infants.
* Always check with your GP or health officials first before changing your infants diet  or      applying new products to skin.
